Take the LED traffic lights as an example, the excitation energy from LED can be turned into visible light almost a hundred percent, while there is 80% of excitation energy from incandescent bulbs may becomes thermal energy, and only 20% can turn into visible light.
3. Low thermal energy
LED converts electrical energy into light source directly, so it can avoid excessive heating. And the cooling surface of LED traffic lights can protect the servicemen from scalding.
4. Long life span
LED traffic lights are usually required to work normally in bad weater conditions, no matter it is in freezing winter or in sultry summer, exposed to the sun or rain, so it has ultra high requirements for the reliable performance of the LED indicator lights. In general, the average light span of incandescent bulbs used as indicator lights is 1000h, and that of low voltage halogen lamps is 2000h, and their maintenance cost is relatively very high. But LED indicator lights don't have the problems of shaking problem of filamentary cathode and fracturing problem of glass shade.
