Introduction to the Electric Power Generation

Electric power generation is a physical and sometimes chemical process where power-generating facilities transform natural energy or power into electricity to fill various electrical needs of people. Water power, firepower, wind power, nuclear energy, solar energy and various petrifaction fuels can all be utilized to create electricity. The following paragraphs will focus on the advantages and disadvantages of the several common ways of power generation.

Wind power generation, as is very clear to all, is a process where wind acts as the generating force. The power generator mainly consists of the wind turbine generator, the generator, the direction-adjusting device, the speed-limiting device and the energy-storing device. During the process of generating, the vertical and horizontal axis wind generator rotate with the function of wind to transform the kinetic energy of wind into the electric energy. The speed-limiting device functions to ensure the stability of the power generator when it works. The direction-adjusting device can make proper adjustments to the rotating turbines when the direction of wind changes. Compared with other ways, wind power generation is commonly easier to be conducted, which makes the wide applications of it in reality. The disadvantages of it appear in the fact that the weather conditions will have a huge influence on the process of power generation.
The core device of the nuclear energy power generation is the nuclear reactor. This process is difficult to be controlled and may cause serious pollution to the environment if it is not strictly operated. But the efficiency of generating can be very high because the nuclear energy is transformed during that process. So, it still deserves our attention in the future. The fire power generation is a procedure where fuels like oil, coal and natural gas burn to create enough energy to heat water. After that, water steam of high temperature and pressure drives the power generator to work. The abundance of the source materials is one of the advantages. Disadvantages involve the serious air pollution.
It can be seen from the above discussion that power generation is a process of energy transformation. Different source materials are closely related to different ways of power generation. While the generating principles are always alike. The different advantages and disadvantages of each determine the different applications in the field of industry. More researches should be done to get more knowledges on the environmental protection, the economy and other aspects involved to better control the process of power generation.
