The maintenance of diesel powered fire pump

The biggest difference between diesel powered fire pump and electric water pump is that they have their independent power supply system - storage battery, so it can start and operate normally without the support of electric supply. Diesel fire pump is usually used as standby facility. It will start automatically only when the fire signals appear, and a failure occurs at electric water pumps or the power goes off.

The maintenance of diesel fire pumps is the most simple and the most economical, so extending service life and reducing use cost become very important. The daily maintenance can keep the following steps:
1. Check the fuel quantity of fuel tank, and fill up it if needed.
2. Check the oil level of the oil sump, and it belows the scale line, refuel to the specified amount, but it should not exceed the upper limit.
3. Check the oil level of the fuel injection pump speed controller, and you should refuel if it doesn't reach the specified degree line.
4. Check if there is enough lubricating grease in the oil filling nozzle of the water pumps. Take the oiling nozzle off the diesel circulating water pump and observe if there is enougn lubricating grease inside. If no, infuse it with abundant lubricating grease.
5. Check if there is enough water inside the water tank, and replenish the water if needed. It is suggested to use clean water such as tap water or clean river water. If use the ground water directly, it will generate scale incrustation inside the water tank, which will influence the cooling effect and cause failure. So ground water can be used only if being softened.
Although diesel fire pump is highly automated, some human factors may make it fail to work. So in order to ensure the reliability of the entire control system, the organized daily maintenance is necessary.
